This introductory course to photographing parkour teaches photographers of all abilities how to begin capturing stunning imagery of athletes moving dynamically through the city. Learn how to produce photographs that convey the strength and beauty of the body, and provoke questions about how we relate to the cities we live in.
As well as practical techniques – composition and framing, exposure, focusing, pre-visualisation and more – you will also gain insight into how to work in partnership with athletes, understand their movements, and communicate effectively to create striking photographs. Elements of sociological and fine art theory will be introduced to help you begin to consider how images can communicate our relationship with the built environment. |

After a morning session in a seminar room, we will travel as a group to one of the London’s best parkour training locations and work with an experienced athlete as he/she explores the urban environment. Our group of up to eight students will be working with a professional parkour practitioner and coach, taking it in turns to respond to his/her movements or working with him/her to offer our own choreographies.
"Andy Day's photography workshop changed everything about how I approached photography. With the confidence that I gained, I started shooting more, received a few commissions and actually had work exhibited internationally.
With an accessible and intelligent approach to the subject matter, you enjoy what you are learning and I managed to create images that were of the kind that I previously had thought 'only other people somehow know how to get'. It wasn't by luck or chance - it was the result of learning new ways of seeing and approaching the subject matter with a rare creative guidance and encouragement for you to express and respond to. For any moving image practitioners, I can't recommend this course enough, especially if you are looking to broaden your horizons into capturing that moment. " - Julie Angel |
