What's different about your photography courses?
There are two things that differentiate us from your typical urban photography course. Firstly, as well as the usual wealth of information about technique, we bring with us an academic background so that we can help you begin to talk about the images that we create together. Secondly, on most of our courses, we're going out into the city and, instead of just responding to what we see, we are creating moments for ourselves through the artistry and inventiveness of our performers.
What are your booking terms and conditions?
You can read our Booking Terms and Conditions by clicking here. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to get in touch, either through our contact form or by emailing us at info@landmannstudios.com.
Can I cancel my booking?
Yes, but, as mentioned, we have some terms and conditions to make sure that we don't end up out of pocket. As long as you let us know in writing at least 14 days before a course starts, we can give you a full refund. They're a bit dull to read but it's probably important to understand them..!
Is my camera suitable?
You will get the most out of the course if you use a camera that gives you direct control over the ISO, aperture and shutter speed. Also, as we are photographing action, it's best to use a camera that has no lag between pushing the button and capturing the image. All that said, it's possible to create remarkable photographs using nothing more than a phone camera or a simple point and shoot. Feel free to drop us a line if you'd like to discuss it in more detail.
What should I bring?
Each course lists what you need to bring - some is essential (eg, a camera), some is desirable (eg, a wide angle lens). We've left these lists quite short - both Diego and Andy travel quite light as being mobile is part of how we work, so you may wish to leave your 10x8 field camera at home! We suggest bringing some snacks and perhaps a packed lunch.
What can I do with my photographs afterwards?
We encourage you to share your images with the athletes and performers. You may use your photographs for personal and editorial purposes. Athletes and performers have been advised not to sign a commercial model release without charging photographers an additional fee.

What should I wear?
You may find yourself lying on the floor or scampering up walls so it's worth wearing clothes that will allow you to move freely, that can get dirty, and will keep you warm for an entire day spent outdoors. We strongly suggest checking the weather forecast in advance.
What happens if it rains?
We continue as planned. The weather is part of the city, negotiated as an obstacle by parkour practitioners and incorporated into a performance by our performers. Please dress appropriately as we will be outdoors all day.
What do you mean by 'photographic discourses'?
Photographs have the potential to reflect, disrupt and intervene in urban life, allowing us to find new means of understanding the city and enabling us to ask questions about how we shape the built environment, and how that environment shapes us. Our four-day courses are excellent accompaniments or gateways to BA and MA programmes in fine art, sociology, anthropology, geography, architecture, performing arts, media studies, urbanism, visual cultures, and more.
What do you offer outside of these courses?
We offer mentoring and private tuition. We are also able to tailor courses to suit various budgets and institutions, such as schools, colleges, universities, charities and corporations. For more information, send us an email or use the contact page.
If we're on location all day, is there a toilet?
Yes and no. You might need to summon the courage to enter a cafe/pub and use their toilet without purchasing a sandwich/pint. Or you may need to improvise in other ways.
Will my equipment be safe? Am I in any danger?
We will be on location in busy, urban areas of a densely populated city. We've never experienced any problems in the locations that we use but urban life is often unpredictable. We will be working as a group, perhaps splitting into smaller groups, but it's still best to keep all of your belongings with you at all times and behave in a manner that's appropriate and sensitive to the locations and people that we encounter.

I'm under 18.
That's not a question but, then, neither is it a problem. If an adult (parent/guardian/loco parentis) can accompany you throughout the course, you are both welcome to sign up.
What if I hurt myself? What if I hurt someone else?
We encourage you to be creative in capturing different angles but we don't take any responsibility for your physical safety. Any adventuring, performing, or parkour is done at your own risk. The tutors and the performers have public liability insurance - you may wish to acquire your own (this is often included when you insure your camera equipment through a reputable company, such as Towergate Insurance).
Is my payment secure?
Very. Payments through our website are handled by Stripe, an online payments company used by more than 100,000 businesses including Adidas, Unicef, Squarespace, and The Guardian.
